Pia Howells

Dance Instructor

Former Competitor

Pia's ballroom dancing journey began when she was 26, with a suggestion from a friend to join her at a beginners’ class. Fumbling around the dance floor, trying to work out left from right (and sometimes forward from back) proved to be a challenge Pia was keen to set her teeth into. By the end of the first class, she was hooked!

Since that day, with countless hours on the dance floor, Pia began with medals, and when lucky enough to snag a male dance partner, she graduated to competition.

Competing in numerous championships over the years and achieving wins here and there, a big highlight for her came with winning the Bob and Naomi Aiken Perpetual Trophy. This award was created to recognise the C Grade couple who achieved the best results across all three styles of ballroom dance (Latin American, Modern Ballroom/Standard and New Vogue/Sequence).

She has a passion for dancing, loves moving to music and is enthusiastic to share the joys of dancing with those around her.

Working with Long Steps, Pia is excited to share her knowledge and experience gained over the years with anyone who is looking to improve their dancing.

Outside of dancing, you’ll probably find Pia with her head in a book, cycling along a bush track or throwing a frisbee.
